With their presence commonly found in houses, cockroaches can be very irritating and unhygienic. They are of different appearances. The common types of cockroaches are American cockroach, German cockroach, Australian cockroach and Oriental cockroach. Some stay on the inside while others prefer the outside of a house. Insecticide. They can be found in different forms. They are mostly in the form of sprays and baits. When spraying, spray entry points to hinder others from coming in and those going out to be affected. Use the spray also to spray small openings and cracks inside the house as they preferably hide in these small holes. Baits are mostly found as sticky glues. You use these insecticides around dark corners or areas a cockroach is likely to pass through and gets stuck. There are some that come in powder form once a cockroach walks over the powder they drop down. Getting an insecticide can be of great help to you.
Proper sanitation. This stands for proper hygienic maintenance of the inside and outside environment. Always keep the house and compound clean. Dirty dishes should be washed and dried immediately after using them to avoid sink pile-ups. Throw away trash every morning where possible.
Cockroaches need food to stay alive and productive. Once they get this need soughted they will keep coming back in the house for long. Dirty places are a source of their food. Smaller insects who come around the food remains and trash cans fall prey to cockroaches. Therefore, make sure you get rid of circumstances that might be a food source for roaches.
Deny them a place for shelter. They mostly prefer dark areas in the house. Areas covered with holes and cracks are good shelter places for them to stay. Many cockroaches could stay in a small hole that is dark and holds enough space for them. You can cover up holes and cracks to get rid of their shelter at the same time control them. Try to lighten up the house and make sure dark corners receive bright light. Do not forget the ceiling since its dark above they will probably be hiding there, seal all round to make sure they don’t crawl into the house.
Carry out inspection. Do the inspection at night. Noticing one breed would mean a possible infestation. Find egg cases or a musty smell they could lead you to their shelter. Get rid of droppings to avoid health complications especially for people with asthma.
