There are many types of personality disorders out there. It is the narcissistic personality disorder that is one of the not so common disorders out there. It is this one that was forts determined in the year 1968. It is this one that is medically defined as a pervasive pattern of grandiosity, need for admiration, and a lack of empathy. This kind of disorder affects less than 1% of the population.
When taking a look at this type of disorder then they are divided into five different types which are unprincipled narcissist, amorous narcissist, compensatory narcissist, elitist narcissist, and fanatic type. Whenever an individual will be diagnosed with NPD then it is them that will fall into one of these categories. Once an individual will have unprincipled narcissism then it is them that will have antisocial features like being fraudulent, deceptive and exploitative. There is a histrionic feature that one will see once they will have an amorous narcissism. Exhibits negativistic and avoidant features is what people with a compensatory mechanism will do. If you are able to see paranoid features then that is a tell-tale sign of individuals with fanatic narcissism.
It s the oblivious and hypervigilant that are the two subcategories if this disorder. If an individual will be showing that they are grandiose, arrogant and thick-skinned then they belong to the oblivious type. It is a hypervigilant individual is what you will have once they are easily hurt, oversensitive and ashamed.
There are no clear and exact cause of this disorder yet. But ma experts believed that there are a variety of factors that can lead to this disorder. Some of the main factors found to be the reasons of this disorder are emotional abuse in the formative years, overindulgence, and excessive admiration particularly during childhood. It is this disorder that will progress over a period of time although it will start showing its signs during early adulthood. And it is also this disordered that will have a complication like a relationship and family problems and increasing dependence on alcohol or other drug.
One of the most effective ways to address this kind of disorder is through psychotherapy. It is this one that these individuals became more compassionate to other people. It is the psychotherapy that has two main goals. There are short term goals and that is to free the individual from substance abuse. And the long term goal is to change the person character. Some of the medications being used for this disorder are antidepressants and and-anxiety. For them to control depression and anxiety then it is these drugs that will be given.
